I headed back out to the church at Breedon on the Hill on Sunday. Having shot there a couple of times before I decided to go for a few detail shots. I liked the way the light was playing on this effigy, I liked the strand of cobweb which is visible leading off from the bottom right corner of the prayer book and I was happy with the composition so I made it my photo of the day.
I know I’ve taken quite a few photos around churches for this project recently. It’s not that I have any particular love of churches, and I’m not into religion in any way. I do however love old buildings, and even if I don’t hold the religious views of the people who built them and worship in them then I can still appreciate them as places of spiritual devotion, artistic beauty and architectural achievement. We are incredibly fortunate to have so many surviving old churches in Leicestershire.
